l-r Si, Joe, Dave.

Inme talk about being jinxed, slough, and try to eat the dictaphone...
How did you form and how long have you been together as a band for?
Dave: Well me and Joe have known each other since we were four, we met at infant school on the first day and went through school together and took a serious interest in music after a while, and then met Si in senior school, when we were 12, and it's been like that ever since we started and decided we wanted to do something serious. So its been about 6 years.

Why did you change your name from Drowned, and is there any meaning behind the name InMe?
Dave: Well there were a few other bands around at the time called - background music is turned up loudly.. argh!
Si: Damn it! laughs
Dave: Anyway.. wheres the mic? talks directly into the dictaphone Where was I...band name... Drowned.. We were called drowned... music is turned up louder ANYWAY, there were a few other bands called drowned at the time..
Si: quietly to Joe Does he think it's a sandwich? Joe and Si laugh
Dave: Erm... what is the funny thing?
He said 'Does he think the dictaphone's a sandwich?'
Dave: laughs Anyway, drowned, we chose InMe because it could mean anything to anyone.... I've just realised I'm actually having a conversation with a machine......laughs
Joe: laughs He's just sitting there, jabbering on, telling his life story to a machine while we sit here laughing...
Dave: laughs So InMe... starts laughing again It can mean anything you want it to mean to any particular individual..... finally!

How would you describe your music?
Dave: Ooh... I'd say rock, with an underline... with a massive melodic edge.. a heavy edge.
Joe: Spine tingling... laughs
Dave: Lots of different colours.
Joe: It's just rock.
Dave:Yeah, rock basically.
Joe: Pure rawk! laughs
Dave:Rock with our own stance on it

Do you ever worry that people are going to concentrate more on your age or looks than your music?
Dave: Well we think we're ugly....
Joe: Well we've been trying to tell people that Si's not an ugly bastard for ages, but... laughs
Si: It doesn't work though!
Joe: Yeah, it doesn't work, people seem to keep concentrating on it....
Dave: No, but seriously, the way we see it if anyone's got a problem with our age, well we're 19 anyway so we don't think that's that young, at the end of the day to us it is all about the music, but if to them it's about how old you are then that's their perogative.
Joe: If it makes them happy, then fine, but it's not the ideal way we would want to get sales, but we can''t help it.

Where do you get inspiration for your songs from?
Dave: Anywhere, I don't know , if I'm feeling a particular way then we just do it, we draw off each other, anything really, I couldn't pinpoint one thing.
Joe: It's a subconcious thing as well, when you write you just tend to do it rather than set out to do it.
Si: It just happens really.

Would you ever write songs for another band, or do you feel that your songs are too personal to you?
Dave: Personally no, I just don't have an interest. If it was like, some little side project type thing we were doing just for fun then yeah, but I wouldn't go out of my way just to make money or something.
Joe: I think I would write for other people, but obviously I would have to know who it was, and it would have to be something we set up to do, and that I could guarantee that it wouldn't go to pop.

What is your favourite song of yours?
Dave: Crushed Like Fruit
Joe: Oh of ours??? erm... go to Si.
Si: Miracle, it's a bside
Joe: eeermmmmm...... can I get back to you?
You can have more than one if you want...
Joe: Ooh ok then.. erm... Mosaic and Ice Warm.

You always make an effort to reply to e-mails that people send you , and you visit the message board sometimes, would you say that your relationship with the fans is of importance to you?
Si: Yeah, we try to reply to all the e-mails.
Dave: Yeah we try, it should be better now, as mine and Joe's computer has been destroyed for the past two months but we've got it back now, we're constantly replying now.

On the subject of fans, have you got any obsessive fans yet?
Joe:laughs In theory, in writing we have!
Dave: As long as they keep their obsession to themselves, and don't put some of the stuff they say or write into action, the screaming and stuff's cool, whatever pleases each individual, as long as they don't do anything scary...
Joe: I think it's cool, they can get into it as much as they like! As long as it doesn't get too OTT or anything...

What was it like going to Canada to shoot the video for Underdose?
Si: Amazing!
Joe: Amazing but hazy...We were really tired as well, we did two videos in two days, but the video for Firefly was filmed from 8pm, until 8am the next morning.
Did you see what Kerrang! put about Underdose?
Joe: laughs Yeah, man tries to get his mouth open as wide as possible....
And looks like a sunny car park in Slough. So according to them you went all the way to Canada to make it look like a sunny car park in Slough!
Joe: Well we were the ones who got to go to Canada, not them!
Dave: Granted we did go to the biggest dump in Canada.... no offence to Slough!

What is it like seeing your video on tv, do you watch it or turn it off?
Dave: We watch it, but we haven't got very good satellite connection so its always cutting out, but it's cool.
Joe: But it's always interesting to see what it pauses on though, Daves always got his mouth open, its really funny.

Would you say that being in the band has made personal relationships more difficult?
Si: Spending more time away from home makes it harder, my girlfriend doesn't like me having to be away a lot, but that's just the way it goes, I can't do anything about it.
Joe: It can put strain on any type of relationship but as long as you understand that at the end of the day it's a job and we love doing that job, nothing comes above it.
Dave: I dunno, my girlfriend's the same as she was before, we're still totally in love. I dunno, sometimes people talk too much about the band and I just want to chill out and talk about something else, but it's cool.
Joe: It can be annoying when people associate the band with your identity, just as who you are.
You mean like you're " Joe from InMe", instead of "Joe Morgan"?
Joe: Yeah sniffs and makes crying noises , then laughs It's terrible! laughs

What has been your best and worst gig?
Joe: What was our worst gig.... er, probably the one we got signed on up until the A&R people walked in, everything was going wrong!
Si: Everything fell to pieces!
Dave: We have a jinxed venue, it's called the Army and Navy near us, we always play badly there!
Si: Stay away! laughs
Joe: Best gig.. hopefully this one will be!

If you could tour with any band , past or present, who would you most like to tour with?
Si: Foo Fighters would be cool.
Dave: Pink Floyd.
Joe: errrrm... past or present?? erm.. At The Drive In.

What are your ambitions for this band?
Dave: We probably passed our ambitions for this band a long time ago, it's gone further than we ever expected, we just want to play some massive gigs, reach a lot of people.
Joe: We're just going to ride the wave, we don't put any expectations on it, therefore we can't succeed or fail in anyone elses eyes apart from our own.

What advice would you give to anyone just starting out in a band, is there anything that you wish you had known before you started out?
Dave: Stay true to yourself no matter what anyone else tells you, do what you want to do, and don't try and conform to whatever else is in fashion at the time. Just do what you have to do, keep at it, and give it a lot of dedication and a lot of practice!
Joe: Rock in your own little way!
